How to prep your home for baby’s arrival
Wether you’re 6 weeks pregnant or 30 weeks pregnant, there’s one major thing you have in common… your baby is coming! I know there are many different circumstances here so I am speaking from my bring-your-new-baby-home experience.
As a first time mom I knew nothing about baby preparation. This took some home work. A LOT of homework. Blogs, forums, tiktok, google, Facebook. I searched the entire internet to fine the proper “how to”.
In reality. There’s not much to it. But there are a few things I highly recommend having at home waiting on you.
Assuming your nursery is done, leave it alone! Leave it fully stocked and clean. Use it for show. You won’t be in there nearly as much as you think until your baby is sleeping in his or her crib.
I recommend having a bedside bassinet for baby. You will be wakening up throughout the night to feed and change the little one. We went as far as bringing the rocking chair into our room as well. This was a temporary space for all of us to use. The link to the bassinet I used is below. This goes on sale frequently on amazon so watch out for sale pricing!
Next, having a rolling cart with all baby essentials is a game changer. Diapers, wipes, burp cloths, lotion, diaper rash cream, and if you’re a breast feeding mama all your goodies too! Best thing about these utility carts is they have wheels. That’s right. A roll-and-go all stop baby shop for anywhere in your home. Now tell me it doesn’t sound awesome. Exactly. The link is below for the cart I used. I even went as far as decorating the cart, just for fun.
Additionally, adding baskets or drawer organisers in the cart was nice to have too just to keep things separated for easier access. I just used some spare parts from the nursery for this. If you haven’t had your baby shower yet, expect quite a few baskets lol
I also would recommend having your car seat already installed into whatever vehicle will be taking you home from the hospital. Have everything secure and practice using it! Some baby products actually ARE close to rocket science. So go ahead and set up that car seat, pack and play, whatever instruments you plan to use when baby arrives to make your life easier.
Lastly, mom-to-mom, do a few things for yourself. For example, I bought several cute matching pj sets, face masks, cute water cup, and had a basket set up in the bathroom with adult diapers and pads. Those first few weeks are hard. Don’t make it any harder on yourself!
Much love,
Z-mom
